US Geological Survey Gauge

MULBERRY RIVER LEVEL - TURNER BEND GAUGE
The Mulberry River gauge at the Turner Bend Landing measures the river level in 2/10's increments. The river difficulty as it relates to that gauge is described as follows:

Below 1.6 Too low.
1.6 Kayaks only. Too low for canoes.
1.7 - 1.8 Very low. Lots of dragging. Keep your trip short.
1.9 - 2.0 Low but floatable. Some dragging especially if your boat is heavy. Too low for rafts.
2.1 - 2.3 No dragging in canoes unless you pick the wrong path. Lots of maneuvering and rocks to dodge.
2.4 - 2.6 The pools are still pretty calm, but the rapids are starting to roll. Enough water to take a short raft trip.
2.7 - 3.0 Many rapids are at their best in this range. Pools are starting to move.
3.1 -3.6 Prime whitewater with a strong current. Most rocks are covered. Big waves that can swamp open canoes. Intermediate skills necessary.
3.7- 4.0 Big, fast water with almost no pools. All the rocks are covered at this level and many rapids are washed out. The river begins to spread into the trees lining the banks. Advanced boaters only.
4.1 - 4.4 You must know the river and know what you are doing. Kayak and raft rentals only.
4.5 & Up Too much water. No shuttles. The river exceeds its banks and flows through the trees. Wait for a better day.
